We are a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) approved equine hospital.
As per government and RCVS guidelines, as of this point we are offering EMERGENCY and ESSENTIAL CARE ONLY.
We have vets on hand who are very happy to speak to you to offer advice and guidance if you have any concerns.
For horses that require essential care, we are able to help. All other routine and non-essential appointments will need to be postponed for now.
This is a rapidly changing situation and we are expecting further guidance from the government and the RCVS over the next 24 - 48 hours and we will update clients as soon as we are able.
HERE is the most up to date statement from the RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons).
We have had lots of queries regarding vaccination during the next 3 weeks of 'lock down'.
During this 3 week period, we are ONLY able to offer EMERGENCY and ESSENTIAL VETERIARY CARE. Vaccination of horses is extremely important, but not always urgent. We believe that whilst this important work usually needs to be done, but during this unprecedented time, the vaccination of a proportion of horses can reasonably be postponed for a short period, in the interests of protecting human health.
We are in discussion with and receiving regular updates from the RCVS and our professional bodies BEVA & the BVA. The situation is developing rapidly and we will update clients as promptly as we can as more information becomes available.
One thing to keep in mind with regards to flu vaccination; one of the main causes of transmission of a disease such as equine flu is the movement of horses. With all competition on hold and no un-essential movement (of both humans and horses), this limits the risk enormously.
We do understand how concerning this time is and we are awaiting updates and further guidance from the government, our regulators, professional associations and governing bodies of equestrian sport, which we shall pass on as soon as we receive it.
We also of course understand the potential financial implications of having to re-start vaccination courses and are exploring ways that this can be mitigated.
We are always on the end of a phone and if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact us on 01622 813700.
