ARTICIAL INSEMINATION (AI) fees for 2010 We have been running an artificial insemination service here for more than 10 years and are increasing the number of successful inseminations every year. With time we have learnt that there are many key factors that require careful consideration before you start. All mares undergoing artificial insemination must have a negative CEM (contagious equine metritis) swab and a negative EVA (equine viral arteritis) blood serology result obtained during 2010 before the season that she is intended to be inseminated. Package fees include the cost of all veterinary examinations and ultrasound scans performed during the mare’s oestrus period, and a 15 day pregnancy scan (must be performed at the clinic), but exclude the cost of drugs and subsequent ultrasound scans or visit fees if the procedure is not performed at the clinic. These fees exclude the cost of any drugs required in the management of the mare or her cycle/insemination. PLEASE NOTE:• The cost of additional medication required to manipulate the mare’s cycle such as ovuplant (£53.96 +VAT) or to treat infection, may be significant and could add up to £100 or more to the “package” price. These are additional fees as are not necessary for many mares. • Extra nights of boarding beyond those covered by the package will be charged at standard hospital rates (£40.66 + VAT per night stabled or £15.83 + VAT per night for grass livery). • Also all mares and stallions involved will need to be confirmed free of venereal infection (CEM and EVA) by routine blood and swabs performed in 2010 before being accepted for breeding purposes.
