Orthopaedic Procedures
Many orthopaedic surgeries are carried out routinely, including surgical treatment of infected joints and tendon sheaths, arthroscopies, and desmotomies (e.g. annular ligament desmotomy, inferior check ligament desmotomy, etc.). A full range of arthroscopy equipment is used, including video cameras, fluid pumps, motorised burrs and synovial resectors, etc. A very few complex orthopaedic surgeries (such as cervical vertebral stabilisation for wobblers) are not currently performed at our hospital, and such cases are referred to specialist orthopaedic surgeons as required. We can however, undertake internal fixation procedures for long bone fracture fixation using the innovative locking compression plate technology to produce maximal stability and increase the horse's chance of return to full function.
