A purpose built laboratory in the centre of the Bell Equine Hospital supports the vets and all the horses under their care. The advantage of our in-house lab here means that we can obtain urgent laboratory results quickly, most being completed the same day and for those emergency cases, even during the night.
We can run a vast variety of haematological and biochemical tests on blood samples, as well as other investigations such as cytology on tracheal wash samples, checking for ringworm and also worm egg counts on faecal samples.
Samples are not just submitted by our own vets, but can also be brought in for quick answers for emergency cases from other practices.
Many of our clients routinely submit faecal samples to us, via reception for faecal worm egg counts to be performed on a regular basis. We offer a discounted fee for bulk samples, so that a whole yard can check the effectiveness of their worming strategy. Using our knowledge of the individual stables involved, our vets will then advise you whether or not you need to treat your horses. Many yards that have regular faecal worm egg counts done, find they can dramatically reduce the number of worming treatments required.
If you have questions contact Gemma Lemon or Becky Swan, our laboratory technicians through the main office on 01622 813700.
