Nursing positions:

We have two opportunities for enthusiastic, qualified REVN/RVN’s to join our friendly team of experienced nurses, technicians and horse care assistants.  We are a busy equine first opinion and Tier 3 referral hospital with over 20 vets.  We are well equipped and carry out radiography, CT, MRI, nuclear scintigraphy, lameness investigations, endoscopy and many other procedures on a daily basis. We have a fully equipped Laboratory on site. We also support an ambulatory team on the road with various appointments. The practice provides a 24hr on call service and carries out surgical procedures on a routine or emergency basis.

Positions available:

HEAD NURSE VACANCY – 12 months Maternity Cover

EQUINE NURSING VACANCY – Permanent

For the head nurse role the ideal candidate would have experience in managing, motivating and organising a large team. Duties for both positions will include joining our nursing team on a 1:4 weekend rota and weekly night duties.  CPD is encouraged and funded.  Holiday is 25 days per annum pro rata (not including bank holidays).

Our nurses are also encouraged to have an area of interest within the hospital. Qualified RVN’s will be supported to gain the REVN qualification.

Senior Clinical Scholar (Resident) in Large Animal Diagnostic Imaging

Graduates with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in equine practice, including completion of an internship programme or 2 years in veterinary practice, are invited to apply for this Scholarship. Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

This is a joint training programme between the Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic and the Royal Veterinary College. The successful applicant will undertake training in equine diagnostic imaging at Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic, and equine / farm animal / small animal imaging at the Royal Veterinary College. The successful applicant will be expected to study towards the European Diploma in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.

Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic is a multidisciplinary equine referral centre in the Southeast of England with a wide range of referral services including Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopaedics, Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, Dentistry, etc. The clinic is accredited as an Equine Veterinary Hospital by the RCVS Practice Standards scheme. In addition to the hospital, the practice has a large and fully integrated first opinion ambulatory equine practice. Our imaging team includes two ECVDI-LA diplomates and a large animal associate, supported by dedicated MRI technicians and qualified nurses. Our busy caseload consists primarily of leisure and competition horses, with smaller numbers of Thoroughbred racehorses/others.

The post is available for a period of 3 years, subject to satisfactory progress. Start date July 2019.

Hospital ‚ÄčInternship

We are currently inviting applications for the post of hospital intern starting in July / August 2019.

This is a one-year Internship program suitable for new and recently qualified graduates (we are currently considering extending the internship period to 13 months).

Interns work in all the hospital areas and have patient care responsibility under the supervision of senior clinicians and also have the opportunity to attend some ambulatory calls. Interns also have the opportunity to undertake a small clinical research project and/or write up a case report for publication (voluntary).

There is a 1:2 out of hour’s rota and accommodation is provided in purpose built flats on site.

Our internships provide a suitable foundation for most equine post-graduate specialist qualifications and also provide excellent training for general or specialist equine practice.
